Summer Vibes: Yorkshire Tea Makes a Splash with Their Surprising Summer Anthem

As the nation flocks to beer gardens, Love Island takes over our screens, and men proudly flaunt their bare torsos at every opportunity, there’s no denying that summer has arrived in full swing.

What was once an American phenomenon has now become an integral part of the summer experience—the song of the summer. This unofficial title is bestowed upon a catchy tune that becomes so ubiquitous during the season that it often wears out its welcome.

While contenders like Dua Lipa’s infectious Barbie anthem “Dance the Night” and the TikTok-powered revival of Miguel’s 2000s hit “Sure Thing” are vying for the crown, an unexpected challenger has emerged this year: Yorkshire Tea.

Collaborating with long-time agency partner Lucky Generals and Ninja Tune (the renowned record label behind artists like Bonobo and Peggy Gou), Yorkshire Tea presents its first bona fide summer hit, “Pack Yer Bags.”

Packed with clever one-liners inspired by the beloved brew (“Sambuca shot. Tequila shot. Rather have a Yorkshire Tea in a teapot”), the song and its accompanying music video playfully overturn the typical lad’s holiday tropes to showcase the extraordinary lengths people will go to for a proper cuppa even when abroad.

“We’ve all been there—thirsty in Pathos, with a mouth drier than a sun-baked flip-flop, taunted by an inferior hotel teabag next to the tiny kettle,” share Nick Bird and Lee Smith, creative directors at Lucky Generals. “With ‘Pack Yer Bags,’ we hope to end that dreadful predicament and make it a mantra that every holidaymaker embraces this summer, no matter where they go.”

Yorkshire Tea is known for injecting humour into its advertising campaigns. Previous endeavours featured a socially distanced teapot during the pandemic and actor Patrick Stewart delivering a memorable farewell speech. As brand purpose takes a backseat, “Pack Yer Bags” signals the revival of quirky advertisements that captivate and entertain.
